We’ve dabbled in the art of coffee shot times in the past, and guess what? It’s so pivotal that we’re revisiting it! Why? Because nailing that 30-second shot time is like hitting the sweet spot in coffee paradise. Now, most machines have their shot clocks, but if yours doesn’t, grab a stopwatch and become the maestro of your brew.
Ideally, your shots dance between 28 to 32 seconds – that’s the magic range. Picture it like a perfectly choreographed routine, each step contributing to the final masterpiece. But, and it’s a big but, once your shots start wandering into the “abnormal range,” it’s grinder adjustment time.
Adjusting your grinder for optimal shot times is paramount. Begin by identifying the issue: if your shots are pulling too quickly, refine your grind to a finer setting; if they linger, opt for a coarser adjustment. Embrace the mantra of small but purposeful changes. Even a slight tweak can yield significant results. Execute these adjustments systematically, pulling test shots and observing the timing. It’s a dance of precision, requiring patience and attention. Remember, the goal is to hit the sweet spot of 28-32 seconds.
Over the next sixth months we will be spending a lot time helping our customers with shot times and knowing the subsequent actions to take with adjusting your grinder to stay in the right range.
Many of our customers are doing a great job with shot times to achieve better coffee consistency and quality. Here’s to consistency, quality, and the joy of a finely brewed cup.
